This interactive experience was based on the story of Marsha Four. Marsha was told that if she signed up to become a nurse in the U.S. Army, she wouldn’t have to go to Vietnam. She was sent to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for six months, and then she received orders to deploy to Vietnam. She and her family were shocked and upset. When she arrived in Vietnam, she was stationed near the DMZ in Camp Evans. Marsha believes she did most of her growing up in Vietnam.
Upon returning home, she felt like she didn’t belong. She accepted an invitation from a male friend she served with in Vietnam to take a road trip out west. She was gone for six months before the money ran out and had to return home. She took up odd jobs, but nothing compared to the passion she felt as a nurse.
Years later, Marsha attended a local veterans meeting, not realizing it would change her life. She understood the pain and confusion other vets expressed. She knew she was no longer alone. Eventually, she became the Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a position she still holds today.
