What do gerrymandered districts look like?

Gerrymandering impedes democracy. If a representative democracy is the goal, districts should produce representatives who reflect the populations within them. They shouldn't need to be wildly contorted to achieve that.

Take a look at this gallery containing some examples of heavily gerrymandered districts from Pennsylvania and a couple of egregiously contorted districts from other states. Remember, districts are supposed to be “compact.”
